Paired motors

When Franco Sbarro can't find the engine he wants, he makes it! Of course, it's not a matter of creating an engine from scratch. Franco Sbarro takes two blocks and assembles them to form a ten-, twelve- or even sixteen-cylinder engine. Easier said than done, this uncommon mechanical operation requires a great deal of know-how.

The Royale Event's engine consists of two eight-cylinder blocks, in the style of the old Bugatti engines.

Seven engines

Seven prototypes were fitted with an engine consisting of two assembled blocks. Four were designed by Franco Sbarro at ACA, three by students at Espace Sbarro in Switzerland. None of these engines were made by Espera Pontarlier or Montbéliard. It's worth noting that two of these blocks were used to power prototypes commissioned by two Italian automakers through their styling centers: Alfa Romeo and Lancia.

1973 - SV1 (ACA Sbarro) : two NSU twin-rotors assembled, 300 hp output ;

1979 - Royale (ACA Sbarro) : 16-cylinder V engine with two Rover V8s, 340 horsepower ;

1982 - Super Twelve (ACA Sbarro) : 12-cylinder V engine, consisting of two 6-cylinder Kawasaki motorcycle engines, rated at around 240 hp

1996 - Issima (Espace Sbarro) : 12-cylinder engine consisting of two Alfa Romeo 6-cylinder units, rated at around 500 hp ;

1997 - Ionos (Espace Sbarro) : 10-cylinder A-frame engine with two Lancia V5 blocks, rated at around 400 hp ;

2000 - Scorpius (Espace Sbarro) : two Yamaha motorcycle engines, rated at 260 hp ;

2014 - Royale Event (ACA Sbarro) : 16-cylinder engine consisting of two V8 blocks joined together, power not specified
