Drawer car boot

There were trunks hanging from the back of the car, three-box cars with a large boot but a small opening, cars with a much more practical tailgate, estate cars whose doors opened like those of a wardrobe. So what could Franco Sbarro have invented? Quite simply, a boot with drawers, like a chest of drawers.

A drawer on a Lola!

Modifying a Lola T70 to make it road legal is a complicated enough job. That's what Sbarro did in his early days. And even if it meant making the car more usable on a daily basis (everything being relative), he found the time to imagine a small luggage compartment that opens like a drawer. The idea seems obvious, but creating a drawer on a piece of furniture is difficult work. And on a car with a less-than-perfectly rigid body, it's complicated. The drawer has to open without forcing and without jamming. Has Franco Sbarro succeeded? Yes, in his workshop, as shown in a 1969 RTS film. Once it's on the car, I don't know.

A drawer on a Ferrari

In 2016, Franco Sbarro presented the Ginevra, a roadster based on a Ferrari 550 Maranello. In addition to its new bodywork, the Ginevra was particularly noted for its boot, which opens like a drawer. Unlike the boot of the aforementioned Lola, this one is larger and can accommodate a golf bag.

The Ginevra, based on a Ferrari 550 Maranello, has a trunk drawer to carry a golf bag.
