Ternario
The second prototype of the promotion 2023-2024 from Espera school in Montbéliard is the Ternario, an electric barquette unveiled on June 22, 2024.
Electric
The mission statement for Espera Montbéliard's sixteen students was to design and build an electrically-powered sports racer. In 2018, the school had already proposed a 100% electric sports car, the Dilemme single-seater. This time, it's a sports car powered by a Tesla electric motor, with Volkswagen ID batteries. Power output is in the region of 390-400 hp (according to Anthony Weck, Espera's managing director, quoted by L'Est républicain). The 1400 kg weight is well contained for an electric car. Performance should also be good.
The number three
The Espera school emphasizes the importance
of the number three in the Ternario. First of all, it's a
three-seater, with the driver in the middle and two side seats
set back slightly, like on a Gordon Murray T50 or a McLaren
F1. Secondly, the hubcaps are shaped like a triangle. And
finally, the number three evokes the three campuses of the
UTBM university, to which the Sbarro school has been attached
for... 3 times 5 years (the number 15 is inscribed on the side
sills).
Bleu blanc rouge & red thread
The design of the car is very successful. In profile, the wheels dominate, with their prominent, rather busy hubcaps. The front is very pure, with a very personal treatment of the windscreen, blending in with the bodywork and revealing the front suspension components. The rear end is very imposing, but avoids heaviness with its matte black paintwork. The imposing rearward extension of the headrest is distinguished by a luminous peak that indicates the battery charge level. When the battery is charged, blue, white and red light up. As the battery discharges, the color changes to red. Speaking of red, the car is highlighted by a red line running all around (rocker panel, front spoiler, base of windshield, rear "fins", top of steering wheel...).
