GT40 replica
Ipromise, it's the last one. That's pretty much how Franco Sbarro presented his Ford GT40 replica at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Between him and the GT40, it's a very long love story that began when Sbarro worked at Filipinetti.
Outcome
Franco Sbarro worked as a mechanic on GT40s for the Filipinetti stable. In 1968, after setting up his ACA workshop, Franco Sbarro modified Ford GT40s for road homologation. He then proposed his own replica, very close to the originals. Many of the cars created by Sbarro were built around GT40 mechanics. In 2018, the latest link in this long story is presented at the Geneva Motor Show.
Modern
There was no question of building a simple replica, however close to the original. Sbarro wanted to offer the best of 2018 in terms of materials and mechanics. The engine is a 550-hp Ford V8. The car weighs just 1,000 kg, making for a very interesting power-to-weight ratio. The hubs and drive shafts are made of titanium. Specific settings are customized. The Sbarro GT40 is right-hand drive. However, the steering wheel is almost in the middle of the car.
