Golf Millenium Foliatec - 1999
Vehicle commissioned by Michaël Böhm, who runs the Foliatec company specializing in automotive accessories and tuning. The Millenium roadster is a veritable catalog of Foliatec products on wheels.
It all started with a Golf
The basis is a Volkswagen Golf 4 GTi, equipped with a five-cylinder engine developing 150 hp. The standard powertrain was deemed sufficient, and no modifications were made. The bodywork, on the other hand, is entirely new, with the exception of the grille. This is a roadster, so there's no roof or soft top. The windshield is replaced by a windscreen, as on the contemporary Renault Spider. Two side air extractors at the front provide ventilation for the engine compartment. A rear spoiler serves as a roll bar. The doors open like elytra. The design of the Millenium roadster is unmistakable.
Rolling catalog
It's important to remember, however, that the Millenium roadster is first and foremost an advertising object. A veritable catalog on wheels of products sold by Foliatec: seats, gear knob, leather steering wheel, rims, blue neon lights to illuminate the interior, exhaust system, tow hook, interior paintwork, fuel flap cover, transparent protective film. A total of 26 products sold by Foliatec. The car was exhibited on the Sbarro stand at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show, and continued its career at the Essen and Frankfurt Motor Shows in the same year. For the record, the original idea was to work on a Beetle, but this model was not yet available on the European market at the time.
Updated in 2017
In 2017, to celebrate 35
years of Foliatec, the Millennium Roadster was updated with
new Foliatec accessories. Most noticeable is the matte blue
self-adhesive film on the body, blue-painted 6-piston brake
calipers, new exhaust with triple tailpipes. The interior is
now black, with a grainy black coating on the rollbar and
headrests. The engine is now turbocharged and develops 232
hp.
