Tornado SB2

The Sbarro Tornado SB2 is a stylistic evolution of the SB1 presented a year earlier. The two-tone bodywork is now uniformly red. The front end has been slightly reworked, especially the headlights. The interior loses its white color for a more classic beige leather.

Second version

The Sbarro Tornado SB1 presented at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show was not unanimously acclaimed. Based on a Ferrari 550 Maranello, it was a roadster with a very personal style. Yellow and black in color, the Tornado SB1 didn't go unnoticed. A year later, a second model was built, at the request of the same customer.

Differences

Franco Sbarro based the Tornado SB2 on a 1994 Ferrari 456 GT. Mechanically, there were no changes: a 5.5-liter V12 engine developing 442 horsepower and equipped with a rare six-speed manual gearbox. A fine base that represents a kind of pinnacle of classic mechanics.

The bodywork follows the lines of the Tornado SB1, with a few differences: a new front end with round headlamps and a pair of spoilers. At the rear, the two round recesses reminiscent of the headlamps have been removed, lightening the design but making it more classic. The car's two-tone paintwork has been removed, and now sports the typical Ferrari red. The doors still open like elytra.

The interior is similar to that of the SB1, with the instruments offset on the center console. The counters are now recessed in an aluminum panel with a simpler design than on the SB1. The gearshift lever is still located under a central shelf, which should not make it any easier to use. The interior is entirely red, with beige leather seats.

For sale

The Sbarro Tornado SB2 appeared on a number of sites selling exceptional cars. In November 2023, it was still available on classicbid.de for €445,000, with 32,200 kilometers on the clock. It must be difficult to sell such a car, with its disparaged styling, built on demand according to the wishes of its sponsor. And above all, denigrated by the tiffosi who don't understand it and cry sacrilege. The classicbid.de website insists that this is a "real" Ferrari!

The Sbarro Tornado SB2 was used to illustrate a magazine advertisement for a luxury watch called... tornado. It also appeared at the Chantilly Concours d'Elegance in 2017.
