Sparta

After the React'EV in 2013, Espera Montbéliard's first hybrid prototype, here's Sparta. The technical base is the same, except for the combustion engine: the V6 PRV of the React'EV has been replaced by a PSA four-cylinder.

Experiment

The React'EV took part in the 14th Monte Carlo Rally for New Energies in March 2013. Despite a few minor problems, it made it to the finish. The Espera students were thus able to analyze the car's reactions and improve certain points. The Sparta benefits from the experience of its predecessor.

The internal combustion engine remains conventional and in line with the production version. As with the React'EV, the two 100 kW electric motors were supplied by the UTBM Energy and Environment Department, headed by David Bouquain.

Monte Carlo Energies Nouvelles Rally

For the second year running, Espera and UTBM took part in the Rallye Monte Carlo Energies Nouvelles. Following on from the Geneva Motor Show, the Sparta was entered in this event, even though it had never been driven before! Apart from a few unavoidable problems (clutch, cardan shaft), which were solved, the Sparta and its team did very well, reaching the finish outside the standings. It's worth remembering that the Sparta is a prototype designed by students from A to Z (design and construction) in just a few weeks (84 days to be precise), and immediately entered the rally without any preparation. A performance that many manufacturers would never be able to achieve. It's a pity that media coverage was insignificant. All photos of this event are on Flickr.

With its large spoiler and open rear end, the Sparta's styling is raw but effective (photograph Espera/UTBM).

Video games

For the record, the Sparta is available in the Asphalt8 video game, and as a download for the GTA San Andreas game.
