Delphi F1for3

AMaserati-powered hot rod, the Eight was designed and built in just eight weeks. Hence the name. Quite a feat, especially when you consider the quality of the workmanship. Presented at the 2012 Paris Motor Show and then exhibited in March 2013 at the Geneva Motor Show, the Eight won over the public

A three-person Formula 1 car with cutting-edge on-board technology in 2012

A single-seater with three seats!

The Sbarro Delphi F1for3 is an original concept: a driver who welcomes two passengers in the back, slightly elevated, to discover the joys of the circuit. At this stage, we're still at the same level as the Floper, its grey twin presented at the same time as the F1for3. But here we add a partner, Delphi, a specialist in on-board technologies. Beneath its rough-and-ready sports car exterior hides what at the time was cutting-edge technology, somewhat overshadowing the spectacular side of the single-seater with... three-seater!

On-board technology

Cutting-edge technology means rapid obsolescence. What was innovative and new in 2012 is now almost commonplace. For example, the Delphi F1for3 was equipped to broadcast TV and internet to passengers' smartphones. Everything is integrated into a shark-like antenna, with GPS, TV, 4G, telephony and eCall, the European system for emergency calls. There's also car2car for vehicle-to-vehicle communication. Of course, today it's commonplace, but in 2012, it was not.

Center console

Directly behind the driver is a touch-sensitive central console for controlling all the equipment. The whole system was developed under the direction of Laurent Tupinier from Delphi in Strasbourg, a specialist in man-machine interfaces.

The most amusing aspect of this car is the contrast between all this technology and the car's minimalist dashboard, which comprises only a large analog tachometer, a temperature controller and a start button.

In brief

2- Collaboration between Sbarro and Delphi
