Espera Sbarro Speed'R, 2010

Speed'R prototype, designed by students of Espera Montbeliard, is the perfect example of what happens in the school premises by Franco Sbarro: a spectacular achievement, the result of a colossal group work and made in a time record. Precisely eleven weeks, from the white sheet to the Paris Motor Show.

Unlike Essenza, presented on the stand of Montbéliard in a less crowded hall, the Speed'R enjoyed a privileged position on the Orange stand. This explains the crowd around this roadster. Add to that a spectacular design, a mate paint, gold wheels and a hight tech equipment : all to attract attention.

On the m echanical side, no hybrid fashion, but a good old V6 Alfa Romeo, at the centre of the car. 210 horsepower for only 850 kg, the performances (not measured) must be of first order. The low weight is mainly due to the use of fiberglass. Faced with such a result, one may wonder why this material, cheap and amazing qualities (light, durable, easily worked, usable for small series) is not longer used in automobile construction. Here it helped sculpt complex curves unattainable to a small cost of materials more "actual" like carbon.

For the rest, the pictures speak for themselves. With the Speed'R, far away from pseudo-ecological modes and despite all his electronic gadgets, students of Espera Montbeliard offer a fun car, with an old V6 engine, pollutant, exhibitionistic and provocative. Congratulations and long life Espera.
