Berlingo Escapade

Citroën has once again called on the Espera school to design an evolution of its Berlingo. In 2003, the Sbarro students transformed the toy van into a mini Hummer (Bourlingueur). In 2004, the metamorphosis is more realistic. The aim is to evaluate the future of toy vehicles. The prototype, completed in just three months, was used to test a number of concepts, including the new Modutop with maximized glazing, a gearless dashboard and simple seat modularity.

The spirit of travel

Let's imagine it's Friday evening. You've got nothing planned for the weekend, but suddenly you're dying to take your family to the seaside for a couple of days. No worries, l'Escapade is there for you, with everything you need, available immediately. You can hit the road with all the comfort you need for on-road use (but avoid off-roading, as the Escapade is not suitable for "off-roading"). You can drive serenely (the GPS is there to guide you), while the kids watch a cartoon on the screens in the headrests or draw on the side table.

- A socially responsible vehicle that respects the environment and is not aggressive towards nature, either in its shape, style or look.

- Open to the environment: see, touch, smell

- A vehicle that adapts to the different phases of a trip: driving (reading, watching a film, etc.), picnics, leisure activities, even emergency sleeping.

Modifications

Exterior - Front bumper moved forward 6cm with integrated grille and new fog lamps - 215 / 45 ZR 17 Michelin Pilot Primacy tires - OZ Germiny 7.5 x17 wheels - Panoramic Plexiglas (PMMA) roof raised 12 cm - Single sliding door on right-hand side - Opening rear bumper for seating.

Row 1 interior - Removed center console and floor-mounted gearshift - Rotating passenger seat for forward-facing or rear-facing seating - New upholstery - New Radio/Cd player with integrated GPS - GPS screen integrated into dashboard.

Row 2 interior - Raised floor with integrated table. Once the bumper is open, the table emerges from the false floor to become a camping table - Raised rear bench seat to offer rear occupants a panoramic view.

The roof features a new-generation Modutop, optimizing the glazed surface, raised to be seen from the outside, and equipped with a central opening. The front and rear sections are made of glazed Plexiglas, for a clear view of objects inside. It is visible from the outside to suggest interior functionalities. Air vents and reading lights are integrated into the arches. Skis can also be stored on the arches: the new Modutop reinvents the roof rack, which is now located under rather than on top of the roof.

- Removable storage compartment in trunk
